Carpet Removal and Installation Nottingham

Whilst carpets are the most common surface when dealing with old flooring removal Nottingham Flooring will carry out the removal of almost any existing floor prior to installing your new floor or carpet to keep things as simple for you and enable us to be very competitive on price since we can look at the total costs of all our services at one location with one client which always helps in this respect.

When removing existing laminate flooring this can be relatively easy or tricky depending on how the existing laminate has been fixed in place. If adhesive has been used then this will me a more laborious job as we will  need to use floor chisels to prise the laminate flooring one board at a time from the floorboards without damaging the floorboards.

Depending on the adhesive used this can usually be scrapped off with a floor scrapper but some old glues may have set extremely hard and the only way to get back to a flat base floor is to use a floor sander, which can get messy if not set up with a vacuuming attachment.

So whilst laminate flooring removal can cause some issues it is normally floor tile removal which will take the most time and physical effort. The process will involve chiselling through the grout to create a gap to try to get a floorboard claw or variant of a crowbar to try to prize off the tile. Again depending on the floor adhesive the tile may break off in part and the process start again. Once all the floor tiles have been removed then any  adhesive of grout remaining on the floor will be sanded out to leave a smooth surface for your new flooring.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • WILL FLOORING NOTTINGHAM REMOVE LAMINATE?

At Flooring Nottingham we provide a complete service for all your flooring needs. So yes, we will remove any laminate flooring prior to fitting your new carpet if laying on top is simply not feasible.

  • HOW DO I DECIDE ON WHICH FLOOR TYPE TO GO FOR?

Choosing the right type of flooring for your home doesn't have to be difficult. Especially with Nottingham Flooring here to help. If however, you do decide to choose you own flooring for us to install here are some things to consider.

    • Measure your room carefully before purchasing any flooring. Make sure you measure the area from wall-to-wall and factor in some excess too.

    • Choose a floor covering that will suit your lifestyle. For example, if you live in a busy household, opt for a thick, durable material that will last for years.

    • Consider the size of your room. Is it big enough to accommodate all the flooring you want? Or are you limited by the space you have?

    • Think about how much footfall your room receives. Will you be walking barefoot across the floor or will you be using shoes?

    • Look at the colour scheme of your room. Do you like bold colours or pastel shades?

    • Don’t forget to think about the way light reflects off the flooring. This can affect the overall feel of your room. This will be most common with laminate, finished wood and glossy vinyl flooring.

  • WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ENGINEERED WOOD AND LAMINATE WOODEN FLOORING?

Laminate flooring is fully man made and  is made up of multiple layers. Each layer adds to the overall strength of the floor. Here are the layers of laminate flooring:

Top Layer - This layer is made up of melamine resin which gives the floor its color. Melamine Resin is used because it is strong, durable and easy to clean. The top layer also helps to prevent scratches.

Face Layer - This face layer is made of wood veneer or whatever design is being created.

Core Layer - This core layer is made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is used because it is lightweight and has great insulation qualities.

Base Layer - This layer is usually made of plywood or particleboard. The base layer is used to hold the other layers together.

Engineered flooring has its top layer made from real hardwood which is then fixed to other thicker wood bases such as high quality plywood to provide a strong uniformed wooden floor, which as a result is much more expensive than laminate.
