Commercial Flooring Nottingham
Contract carpet tiles, safety vinyl, heavy-duty LVT and resin — supplied and fitted for offices, kitchens, retail, hospitality and healthcare across Nottinghamshire.
Commercial work is decided on scheduling as much as specification. We fit evenings, weekends and in phased sections so you keep trading, and we plan around adhesive curing times rather than around ourselves.

Commercial Flooring Contractors Nottingham
Most commercial flooring jobs are won or lost on programme rather than price. The floor covering itself is rarely the difficult part — the difficulty is fitting it into a building that has to keep functioning while the work happens.
We work evenings, weekends, overnight and in phased sections, so a shop keeps trading, an office keeps working and a kitchen keeps serving. Where an adhesive needs overnight curing, we sequence the job around your opening hours rather than ours. Where a floor has to be handed over on a fixed date, we say at the outset whether it's achievable rather than discovering it in week three.
We handle the whole floor build-up rather than just the visible layer: uplift and disposal of the existing floor, subfloor preparation, moisture testing where the slab warrants it, screeding and levelling, and the finished covering. On commercial work that matters more than domestic, because a failed commercial floor closes a business rather than just annoying a household.
We work directly for end clients and as a flooring subcontractor to main contractors, fit-out firms and facilities managers. If you need to see method statements, risk assessments or insurance details before we come to site, ask and we'll provide them.
Commercial Kitchen Flooring Nottingham
A commercial kitchen is the most demanding floor in any building. It's wet, it's hot, it collects grease, it takes heavy trolleys, and it gets cleaned aggressively every single day. It is also the floor most likely to be looked at by an environmental health officer.
Slip resistance is the first consideration, not the last. The UK measure is the pendulum test (BS 7976), producing a Pendulum Test Value. A wet PTV of 36 or above is generally regarded as low slip risk, and for a kitchen floor contaminated with water and grease a competent specification will usually call for that alongside an R11 rating from the German ramp test. The two systems measure different things — a product can carry a respectable R rating and still perform poorly on a wet pendulum test — so for a commercial kitchen it's worth asking for both figures.
The detailing matters as much as the sheet. Safety vinyl should be welded at the seams and coved up the wall so there is no join at floor level for water, grease or food debris to collect in. That's what makes a kitchen floor genuinely cleanable rather than merely clean-looking. We can also form falls to gullies where the kitchen is washed down rather than mopped.
To be clear on where our advice ends: we can tell you what slip rating a given product carries and fit it correctly. The definitive requirement for your premises is a matter for your environmental health officer at the relevant council, or a safety consultant — and under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 the duty to provide a suitable, non-slippery floor sits with you as the employer or occupier. We'd always suggest getting that confirmed in writing before specifying.
Office Flooring Nottingham
Offices are usually a carpet tile job, and carpet tiles are genuinely the right answer. They can be lifted individually to reach floor boxes and cabling, replaced one at a time where something gets damaged or stained, and laid in sections so half the floor keeps working while the other half is done.
The practical challenge is almost always working around people and desks. We phase installations floor by floor or bank by bank, work evenings and weekends where a business can't lose the space, and coordinate with your IT or facilities team on lifting floor boxes and moving furniture. It's slower than clearing a building, but it's usually cheaper than closing one.
One thing worth raising early if you're a tenant: lease dilapidations. Commercial leases frequently oblige you to reinstate flooring to a defined standard at lease end, and the cost of that is often a surprise. If you're fitting out, it's worth knowing what you'll be liable for later; if you're approaching lease expiry, it's worth getting a realistic figure rather than accepting a landlord's schedule at face value. We can quote the flooring element — the schedule itself is a matter for a building surveyor.
Retail and Hospitality Flooring
Shops, cafés, bars, salons and restaurants have a double requirement: the floor has to survive heavy footfall and still look like part of the brand. That usually points to heavy-duty LVT, which gives the wood or stone appearance with commercial durability underneath, or contract vinyl where wet areas and spillage are the bigger concern.
For hospitality specifically, the front-of-house and back-of-house floors are two different specifications and should be priced as such. The dining room needs to look right; the kitchen and cellar need slip resistance and washability. Treating them as one job is how businesses end up with an attractive floor in a place it can't cope.
Trading hours drive the programme. We regularly fit overnight or across a single closed day, and we'll be honest at quote stage about what's realistically achievable in the window you have.
Healthcare and Care Home Flooring
Care homes, clinics, dental practices and treatment rooms sit at the strictest end of commercial flooring. The specification is usually welded safety vinyl with cap coving — a continuous sheet with the flooring turned up the wall in a curve, seams heat-welded, so there is no join anywhere at floor level. That is what makes a floor genuinely cleanable for infection control purposes rather than just wipeable.
Slip resistance matters more than usual because the people using the building are more likely to fall and more likely to be seriously hurt if they do. Coving height, threshold detailing and the transition between rooms all need thinking about rather than defaulting.
Working in an occupied care setting also has its own demands — noise, dust, fumes and disruption all have to be managed around residents. We phase work room by room and can work to whatever restrictions the home operates under. The same approach applies to domestic adaptations, covered on our waterproof and wet room flooring page.
School and Education Flooring
Schools, colleges and nurseries are almost entirely a scheduling problem. The work happens in half terms and summer holidays, to an immovable handover date, and there is no possibility of running over into term time.
We plan education work backwards from the return date, including curing and acclimatisation time rather than treating those as optional. Classrooms, corridors, halls and kitchens each take a different specification, and safeguarding requirements around who is on site and when are simply part of the job.
Warehouse and Industrial Flooring
Large-format industrial spaces are usually about the slab rather than the covering. Concrete that's been in service for decades is rarely flat, frequently cracked and sometimes damp, and any covering laid over it will only be as good as the preparation underneath.
We assess the slab first, including moisture testing where there's reason to think a damp-proof membrane is missing or failing — a common issue in older Nottingham industrial stock. Depending on findings, that leads to levelling, screeding or a surface damp-proof system before anything else happens. Skipping that step is the single most common cause of failed industrial floors.
Gym and Studio Flooring
Gyms need a floor that absorbs impact, protects the structure beneath from dropped weight, and controls noise transmission — which matters a great deal in a mixed-use building with occupied space below. Free weight areas, studio spaces and cardio zones each need different treatment, and the transitions between them need detailing properly so they don't become trip hazards.
Landlords, Voids and Lease End
For landlords and letting agents, flooring is usually about turnaround speed. An empty unit or property earns nothing, so the value is in getting a durable, presentable floor down quickly and at a sensible cost per square metre.
We work on void properties and end-of-tenancy turnarounds across Nottingham, and we're happy to work from a schedule across multiple properties rather than quoting each one individually. For commercial tenants approaching lease expiry, see the note on dilapidations in the office section above — it's worth getting a flooring figure early rather than at the point the schedule lands.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fit flooring without closing our business?
Usually yes. We work evenings, weekends, overnight and in phased sections so retail, offices and hospitality can keep operating. Tell us your trading hours at survey stage and we'll build the programme around them.
What slip rating does a commercial kitchen floor need?
A competent specification typically calls for R11 alongside a wet Pendulum Test Value of 36 or above. The two measure different things, so ask for both figures. Your environmental health officer should confirm the requirement for your premises.
Why are commercial kitchen floors coved and welded?
Coving turns the flooring up the wall in a continuous curve and welding seals the seams, so there is no join anywhere for water, grease or food debris to collect. It is what makes the floor genuinely cleanable rather than just clean-looking.
Do you work as a flooring subcontractor for main contractors?
Yes. We work directly for end clients and as a subcontractor to main contractors, fit-out firms and facilities managers. Method statements, risk assessments and insurance details are available on request before we attend site.
What flooring is best for an office?
Carpet tiles for most offices. They can be lifted individually to reach floor boxes and cabling, replaced one at a time when damaged, and laid in phases so part of the floor stays in use throughout the installation.
Who pays for flooring in a lease dilapidations claim?
It depends entirely on your lease terms, and it is commonly the tenant's obligation to reinstate. We can price the flooring element of a schedule, but the schedule itself is a matter for a building surveyor rather than us.
How long does a commercial flooring installation take?
It depends far more on subfloor condition and access than on floor area. Screeding and levelling need curing time before anything can be laid over them. We'll give you a realistic programme at survey rather than an optimistic one.
Do you test the subfloor for damp?
Where there's reason to, yes. Older concrete slabs in Nottingham industrial and commercial stock frequently have no working damp-proof membrane. Laying a covering over a damp slab traps the moisture and the floor fails.
Can you work in an occupied care home or clinic?
Yes. We phase the work room by room and manage noise, dust and fumes around residents and patients. We can work to whatever access, timing and safeguarding restrictions the setting operates under.
Do you take up and dispose of the old floor?
Yes, uplift and disposal are part of the job. On commercial premises this can be a significant element in itself, particularly with bonded coverings, so it's included in the survey and priced transparently rather than added later.
